What do you love about Tenterfield?

Kat fell in love with Tenterfield 5 years ago and has called it home ever since; in fact loving it so much that she built 3 properties, one for her husband and herself and 2 more for tourists to enjoy the views of Mt McKenzie, the serenity, the fresh air and clean water, home grown fruit and vegetables and the country food and hospitality of which she coined her properties ‘Carpe Diem  (Seize the Day) Guesthouse and Cottage’. Kat fell in love with the community and its friendliness, sincerity and ‘can do’ attitude of which, having travelled extensively has never found until now.

What do you hope to achieve on the board?

Kat joined the TCTIB to give back to the community and to make a difference in this ever evolving business landscape. Kat feels that Tenterfield is on the ‘cusp’ of some positive and productive changes that will mean more jobs and activities for people young and old and greater success for local businesses. She looks forward to working with the TCTIB and the business and local community in making that a reality.

What do you love about Tenterfield?

I believe Tenterfield has a wonderful charm and is an attractive town with so much history. Tenterfield is surrounded by extensive natural beauty and many open spaces to explore in the National Parks and State Forests. Tenterfield is unique in so many ways. I enjoy the experience of all four seasons, and Autumn is my favourite time of the year with the changing of the leaves. Tenterfield has a wonderful community spirit and extends a warm welcome to all.

Having recently moved to Tenterfield and relocating our business (www.ccpbrisbane.com.au) (after 20 years of driving back and forth from Brisbane), I look forward to meeting new people and attending more local events.

What do you hope to achieve on the board?

I am excited to embark in the role of Treasurer of the TCTIB and would like to thank Jo for “showing me the ropes” to make the transition seamless.

I would like to engage with local businesses and organisations to support their businesses and also contribute to economic development in Tenterfield as new businesses are established in town. By collaborating and establishing common goals, we can be more effective in realising and achieving these goals together. Community spirit and working together will be a major influence to continued success of local business and the town as a whole. I would like to work with community and assist with encouraging new annual events to give tourists a continued reason to visit year-round.

What do you love about Tenterfield?

I moved to the New England region when I was 17. I have lived and worked in several towns in the region. In 2005, I moved to the Clarence Valley after 23 years on the tablelands. Work and family kept me coming up the mountains, regularly.

In 2017, we took a road trip from Grafton to Stanthorpe and as we were driving along the New England highway, I felt like I was back home where I belong.

In 2019, we purchased a farm on the eastern side of Tenterfield. I have lived in many areas, some too hot, some too cold, Tenterfield seems to have a perfect balance between the two.

I love the quiet country atmosphere that our town provides. It feels like we have escaped the hectic pace of the coast and we breathe a contented sigh of relief.

We serendipitously discovered our farm after returning from a trip to Nepal. We drove from the airport to Ballandean to look at a property, but it proved to be unsuitable. So being extremely jet lagged, we booked a room in Tenterfield. When I woke up I found a property for sale 20kms east of Tenterfield. We drove out and climbed the hill and when we saw the view, we were immediately sold.

After living on the tablelands, I was familiar with Tenterfield and always liked coming here, but walking around the town that day, I felt that I was where I was meant to be.

I have lived in many places, but Tenterfield is the first town that I have ever felt that I wanted to be involved in and contribute to.

What do you hope to achieve on the board?

I am passionate about business. I have started and operated two successful businesses during my working life.

I was faced with a retirement option, I certainly wouldn’t fit into the Grey Nomad lifestyle, didn’t want to take up fishing or wood turning, so we were faced with a decision. My original dream/goal was to own and operate a horse stud. So, Timbarra View Quarter Horses was born as a retirement business.

This being our retirement plan, demonstrates how passionate I am about business.

I want to see Tenterfield as a town where local businesses can thrive and new businesses can feel confident about starting up.

I am excited about the existence of the TCTIB and looking forward to how we can contribute to the future of business in Tenterfield.

What do you love about Tenterfield Roxanne?

I have been working at Tenterfield High School for the past 25 years. I was born and raised in Tenterfield and I have watched the changes that have evolved over the past years. I moved away for a period (18 Years) and returned with my husband and sons.
Tenterfield has always amazed me with the friendly approachable locals, and the four seasons have always been amazing with Autumn being my favourite.

What do you hope to achieve on the board?

Being part of the Chamber of Commerce to me is a chance to work with amazing volunteers and put Tenterfield first. As a team member I would like to see Tenterfield grow in Tourism and local businesses to evolve.

Jim Stuart

I am currently employed part time with GTH (Grant Townes Haulage) as well as two days a week as the GA (General Assistant) at Jennings Public School.

I am also trying to get my business (Tenterfield Cobbler) up and running full-time instead of as a part time hobby.

What do you love about Tenterfield Jim?

Ever since I started to bring Roxanne here to visit her family in the 1980’s, I have always loved the town with its friendly locals and laid-back country attitude. I grew up in the Mallee area in Victoria where it was flat and featureless and dust storms were more prevalent than rain. Tenterfield with its green pastures, rocks and hills is much more pleasurable to reside in.

What do you hope to achieve on the board?

Being part of the Chamber of Commerce will enable me to participate in the growth of Tenterfield as a business centre and an amazing tourist destination. I look forward to being a part of the ground roots for the advancement of our town as a thriving country community and will endeavour to put forward ideas or help bring someone else’s ideas to fruition.
